Life @ Graduate House

College Activities

Many Resident Members contribute locally to activities around Graduate House as well as more widely to our international collegium through the advancement of education and social good.

Groups are formed according to shared interests in areas such as music, drama, sport, volunteering, debating, gaming and socialising.

Because the population in college varies each week, the types of groups and their membership changes. It is up to each current resident population to form and run college groups and to ensure succession planning for when they leave.

College Roles

The Resident Member Committee (RMC) meets regularly to discuss residency matters, compiles reports for use by staff and the Council committees, and receives and distributes communications to all Resident Members.

The RMC comprises the Resident Member representatives on Council committees and subcommittees, the Duty Residents and representatives from the Graduate House Student Group (GHSG).

Meeting dates are shown in the annual calendar, with the first of four scheduled for late-January each year.

Movies

Relax and unwind with a weekly Movie Night at Graduate House. Movie Nights are held on a Thursday after dinner, with a different theme selected each week. Previous themes have included: Pre-2010s Sports Movies, Cop Action Comedy Movies, Foreign Horror Movies.

House Olympics

Perhaps there was not as much training for our Graduate House inaugural Olympics in 2016 as in Rio, but the competition was fierce and the skill level variable. Certainly the world of graduates competed with pride to represent best their teams.

Day Tours and Social Outings

Graduate House has on its doorstep a great variety of social and cultural activities that you can get involved with! The Graduate House Student Group regularly organise social and networking opportunities, such as: day trips, AFL games/sporting events and winery tours — where Resident Members enjoyed the scenery, wine, ice-cream and had a glorious day in the sun!

Soccer

All are welcome to attend this weekly event in the park across the road from Graduate House (university Square). Held most Sundays (weather permitting), sharpen up your dribbling skills and see if you can bend it like Beckham.

Cultural exchange

From dinners, to dancing, to learning new games, Graduate House is a great place to learn about the world and to develop enduring international relations.

Trivia Night

Assemble a team or come along solo to match your knowledge against other residents in the GH quiz! Usually held in the Bar and Dining Room on Friday evenings after dinner, this is not one to miss.

Karaoke

Let off some steam and channel your inner Aretha or Prince by joining your fellow residents in a bi-monthly expedition to the cities numerous karaoke halls.
