Day of Vesak

26 May, 2021

The Day of the Full Moon in May, Vesak is a sacred day for Buddhists as it is the birth date in the year 623 BC of Buddha, as well as the day that Buddha attained enlightenment and the day of his death at age 18. Day of Vesak is to acknowledge the contribution of Buddhism to the spirituality of humanity through the teachings of Buddha on compassion, peace and goodwill — philosophies that lie at the heart of the Charter of the United Nations. Celebrate Lord Buddha’s wisdom by taking action for others with compassion and solidarity, and by renewing your commitment to a peaceful world.
