International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade

25 March, 2021

First observed in 2008, International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade remembers those who suffered and died through the transatlantic slave trade, the worst violation of human rights in history. For over 400 years, more than 15 million African men, women and children in the 16th to 19th centuries were the victims of enslavement and transportation across the Atlantic Ocean to the Americas. The Day also serves to raise awareness on the dangers of unfettered racism and prejudice, and of systems that support discrimination, inequality and supremacism.
