International Day against Nuclear Tests

29 August, 2021

Nuclear weapons testing began in 1945 and nearly 2,000 tests have subsequently been undertaken. International Day against Nuclear Tests is to learn about the effects of nuclear weapon test explosions or any other nuclear explosions and the need for their cessation as one of the means of achieving the goal of a nuclear-weapon-free world and 26 September us designated as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. The ask is for a world that is free of nuclear weapons and FULL of peace and security. The main mechanism for eradicating nuclear weapons testing is the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) – this has been signed by 184 countries and ratified by 168. Though there remain concerns about clandestine nuclear weapons testing, there is much improved capacity to monitor and verify compliance mechanisms and nuclear weapons proliferation detection.
