Chinese Language Day

20 April, 2021

An official language of the United Nations since 1946, the Chinese language was used more commonly in the work of the United Nations after restoration of the lawful rights of the People’s Republic of China in the United Nations in 1971. Chinese Language Day is also Guyu day to pay tribute to Cangjie, an ancient Chinese historian of the Yellow Emperor who was said to have had four eyes and four pupils, and to have caused deities and ghosts to cry and rain millet from the skies with his invention of Chinese characters.
